For many high school students, taking the SAT is a major step toward applying to colleges. But The College Board, which administers the exams, only gives the tests a few times a year, so students have to make sure they know when the SAT is being given so that they can get their scores in time to apply to the schools of their choice. Here is a look at the remaining SAT dates for the 2015-16 academic year, along with the registration deadlines and when scores are expected to be available for each.
The final two test dates for the 2015-16 academic year are May 7, 2016, and June 4, 2016, both Saturdays, as is usual for the SAT. For the May session, the registration deadline is April 8, with late registration -- which requires an additional $28 late fee on top of the regular $43 fee (or $54.50 for the SAT with essay) -- deadlines coming in at April 22 for registrations sent through the mail and April 26 for students registering online or via phone.
On May 7, in addition to the main SAT, subject tests will be administered in the subjects of literature, U.S. history, mathematics (level 1 and 2), biology, chemistry, physics, French and Spanish.
For students targeting the June exam, that registration deadline is May 5 through the mail or May 11 via phone or online methods. If you can't make those deadlines, late registration -- with the same $28 fee -- extends until May 20 and May 25 for mail and phone/online registration methods, respectively.
On June 4, subject tests will be given in all of the same subjects as on May 7, along with world history, German, Modern Hebrew, Italian and Latin.
One thing to consider when deciding which date to take the test is how quickly the results are needed. For those students taking the test on May 7, scores are expected to be available in mid-June, with mid-July being the target for score delivery following the June 4 administration of the SAT.
