Spring is the season when many high school juniors start thinking about where to apply to college. Some students choose to apply early decision, which entails submitting college applications in the early fall in hopes of receiving admissions decisions in late November or early December. If this describes you, and if you haven't taken your ACT or SAT yet, now is the time to do so to be ready for early decision applications. Don't put off applying for the college of your dreams because you have delayed taking your admissions exams. Choose an upcoming date to take your ACT or SAT. Registering for and taking an exam this spring will ensure that test scores will arrive at your college of choice before their deadline.
The two remaining dates for the SAT for the 2016-2017 are as follows:
May 6: Last day for regular registration is April 7. Late registration and all changes end on April 25. SAT Subject Tests are available on this test date. Score delivery date is June 8.
June 3: Last day for regular registration is May 9. Late registration and all changes end on May 24. SAT Subject Tests are available on this test date. Score delivery date is July 12.
The SAT registration fee is $45. The SAT with essay registration fee is $57. If you are unable to afford the SAT registration fee, a waiver is available. SAT Subject Test registration is $26 plus $20 per subject test you are taking. If you are taking a language plus listening test the fee is $26 more per test. The late fee for SAT registration costs an additional $28 and the waitlist testing fee is an additional $46.
The remaining two dates for the ACT for the 2016-2017 are as follows:
April 8: Last day for regular registration is March 3. Late registration and all changes end on March 17.
June 10: Last day for regular registration is May 5. Late registration and all changes end on May 19.
ACT score reports are typically sent out between three and eight weeks after your testing date. You can view your scores online typically within two weeks of your testing date.
The ACT registration fee is $42.50. The ACT with writing registration fee is $58.50. If you are unable to afford the ACT registration fee, a waiver is available. The late fee for registration is an additional $27.50, and standby testing costs an additional $51.
Remember, the ACT will send out your score report to four colleges for free if you submit the college codes when you register. For an additional $12 you can have the scores sent to a fifth college. Sending scores to a sixth college will cost you an extra $12. The SAT allows you four days after your test to select the four colleges you want your score report sent to for free. Additional colleges will cost $12 per score report.
